Maureen FitzSimons's early accomplishments in the performing arts, that are now known as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to the "child prodigy" category. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as her by talented parents and family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen made her entrance into the sanctity of family on August 17 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was an contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin as well as owned a part of the well-known Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons was second in a group of 6 FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this stunning group. Maureen was a great athlete and played rough, athletic games when she was young. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. She was the recipient of nearly every Feis prizes for her own nation's theatre and drama was a testament to this. At the age of 14 she enrolled in the Abbey Theater to follow her goal of studying the classical theater and operatic singing.
